H-FARM’S FIRST U-18 GIRL MED CUP
Published by:Â Isabella Sanladerer
The first official girls soccer team of H-farm went to the medcup on the weekend of the 25th-27th of March. We went into the tournament thinking we were the worst team there, which unfortunately Switzerland kind of confirmed, but I think after this game, which was also our first game, we got into the mindset we needed to not only not give up but also play better together as a team. In reality, we’re actually quite lucky to have such a diverse group of girls which add new strategies and motivation to each one of our practices and eventually also in the games. Furthermore, I’d like to bring up the fact that the girls from the other teams were generally quite aggressive and unsportsmanlike but I feel even after they called us different names, tripped us and pushed us, we kept our spirits high and were given an example of how not to act during a sport. Also, we learned a lot from their behaviour and the ways in which we responded to it because we didn’t let them get to us and we kept on encouraging each other to be positive. Even if we lost the game we celebrated just as much as the other team that won (either 1-0 or even 10-0). Also, I’d like to congratulate Emma Vanzo and Elena Limena and their amazing goals against the other teams! For our team I think this was a great experience to also improve our skills in soccer, specifically learning the skill of how to truly focus on a game. I believe this was one of our weak points because we were used to doing friendly games in our school community and had never truly faced other teams who desperately wanted to win against our team. In conclusion, I wanted to thank our team captain Sahara Sophia Strader for being such a cheerleader for all of us throughout the games and the full experience, as well as the fact that when we received the award she proudly represented the H-Farm beavers.
