H-Farm Through a Camera Lens

Over Two Years of Photographing "The Farm"

Risa Martignon

Since I joined the school in MYP4, I've always appreciated the campus. Even in moments of frustration - towards grades, peers, or teachers - the surroundings have remained a constant source of joy. It’s easy to overlook what we see every day, yet the beauty of our school is something I never want to take for granted.

Over the years, I’ve taken countless photographs of my walk to school, trying to capture the light, the texture, the feeling of the space. The images in this section are some of my favourites.

There’s something mesmerising about the way the sunlight filters through the trees and bounces off the glass buildings. Every season transforms the landscape, from the crisp, golden leaves of autumn, to the muted calm of winter mornings. Even when the air is so cold that every step feels like an attack, the campus never feels bleak. Instead, it brings warmth despite the chill.

Mornings aren’t always easy. Some days start with a sigh - another test, another deadline, another walk through the cold. I’ve been told that a way to relieve this can be finding “little positives”. These are tiny, almost invisible moments that make life feel a little lighter. For some, it’s a perfect cup of coffee, or waking up to find you’ve packed all your books the night before. For me, it’s the view I get as I take my ten minute trudge to the DP building.

It’s a view that changes ever-so-subtly every day - the light, the colour, the mood - yet it’s grounding. It reminds me that even in the chaos of being a DP student, the ordinary can be beautiful. It brightens my mornings - sometimes literally.
